We absolutely love starting our school year by reading Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.

I have wanted to create name activities, worksheets, crafts and bulletin boards to go along with this classic alphabet book for a long time, and today I am so excited to finally share my ideas with you!

One of the most popular books to start the school year in preschool, pre-k and kindergarten is the classic Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.

Children love the repetitive, predictable text, adorable graphics and onomatopoeia sprinkled throughout the pages.

If you don’t own the book, you can get your kiddos excited about learning letters and their name by show them this video.

I created palm tree and coconut themed activities that can be used with this story.

My first year teaching kindergarten, about 90% of my students arrived on the first day not knowing how to spell their name.

Many of those who did know how to spell their name, used all capital letters, wrote letters backwards, etc.

These adorable activities will teach all of you students how to spell their name correctly while practicing their fine motor skills.

Plus, they are delighted to make crafts to decorate the classroom, make personalized crowns to wear home, graph their names with friends, and so much more!

You can customize these kits in minutes and you’re ready to get started!

This kit comes with 25 pages of custom name activities.

You’ll type a child’s first name, and then each individual letter in their name into a form on the first page of the PDF.

The file with automatically fill in all the activities in for you!

Some activities can be laminated, and others can be used as individual worksheets/activities.

Children absolutely love to pick their “coconut letters” and spell their name.

This activity you’ll want to laminate so it can be used daily!

Multiple activity mats are included so students can practicing both matching and spelling their name on their own.

There are so many ways you can organize these kits so they are easy to use and store with the pieces.

One idea is to simply place the student’s mats in a tray for them to pick up and take to their seat.

I absolutely love THESE plastic trays. I use them for so many different things!

They are so nice because in case a student doesn’t place their letters on the velcro correctly, the pieces won’t scatter and get lost.

THESE velco dots are the best I have found. They don’t peel off and little hands can easily pull and place the letters.

I purchased THIS laminator seven years ago, and it is still going strong. There are less expensive personal laminators out there, but this is the one I use and love.

THESE laminating pouches are less expensive than others and work just as well.

Students are thrilled to have their own personalized puzzle!

I recommend laminating the color puzzle and students can color, cut and paste the BW puzzle on construction paper.

Students are thrilled to make their own personalized crown to wear home.

They cut out the first letter of their name and glue it to the front of their crown. On the back straps of their crown, students rainbow color their first name.

Everything you need to make these names crowns prints on one page, and usually the two included straps make a perfect size to fit their head (depending on their head size, you may need additional strips of paper.)

Bulletin Board Idea: Is there enough room?

This craft prints on one page that is personalized with a student’s name. They color their tree and letter tiles and then rainbow color their name.

Next, students cut out their letter tiles and glue them onto their tree. They count how many letters are in their name and write the number at the bottom of the page.

These look adorable on colorful construction paper.

Graphing student names works on so many skills!

  • Recognizing and spelling our names

  • Ordering the letters in our name from left to right

  • Capital vs. lowercase letters

  • Working on number recognition

  • Counting and 1:1 correspondence

  • Comparing/contrasting skills
