A TALE OF TWO BEASTS Book Companion

This is a fantastic book (one of the best I have ever read for kids) to teach about perspective, point of view, friendship and how there are two sides to every story.

This adorable book is split into two parts: the same story is told from the point of view of the little girl and the point of view of the little beast.

Part 1: One day, a little girl is walking along and she finds a poor little creature crying in the woods. She feels terrible for him so she brings him home to bathe, feed and take care of him.   She does everything she can think of to make him comfortable and happy, and in her mind she thinks she is saving him. She is totally confused when he escapes and runs away.

Part 2: The story starts over again from the beginning from the little beast’s perspective. The little beast is happily playing and singing in the woods when all the sudden, a mean girl comes and captures him! She treats him terrible - like giving him a stinky bath, putting a rope (leash) around his neck and giving him gross food. He is so happy when he can finally escape and run back to the woods.

This is an amazing book to teach children about point of view, perspective and how two people can view the same situation very differently. It ends up having a very sweet conclusion.

This book is also a great conversation starter about how to treat friends, and how you may accidentally offend someone even if you don’t mean to.

We discuss what a misunderstanding is, and how to fix a situation when a misunderstanding happens.

This is the perfect read aloud for 4 - 10 year olds.

You can differentiate the printable activity pages for different ages. For example, I record my four year old’s answers with highlighter and she then traces the sentences.

My older children can do these pages on their own.

We love learning about friendship and social skills!
